February Volunteer of the Month – Jerry Scott

Meet our volunteers! Each month, we highlight stand-out volunteers and how they support families. For February, meet Jerry Scott, who regularly gathers her friends to cook delicious meals for families staying at our Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Children’s Hospital.

  1. How long have you volunteered with RMHC-CNI?
I have been volunteering since March 2022.
  2. Where do you typically volunteer, and what do you usually do?
I participate at the Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn. I volunteer regularly through Meals from the Heart, so my friends and I come together to cook delicious meals for the families. It’s something we love doing because we appreciate having the opportunity to give back. And when I cook, I’m always sure to season my food with love.
  3. Why did you first start volunteering with RMHC-CNI, and what keeps you coming back?
I first got involved because I wanted to donate my time to a program and cause that I enjoy. And Meals from the Heart is exactly what I was looking for! Volunteering with RMHC-CNI is a pleasure – it brings a smile to my face.
  4. What is your favorite memory or experience from volunteering?
My favorite memory from this past year was being in the kitchen when a parent came in for dinner and shared how grateful they were for the meal. Other families have come to tell us how good the food smelled or simply asking (excitedly) what was for dinner. All of those moments bring joy to my heart.

Thank you, Jerry for your contributions to helping families feel at home!
