Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
For children and families without access to medical care, our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program provides a fully-equipped medical clinic on wheels that delivers free care directly to under-served, school-aged children right in their own neighborhoods.
Since 2008, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program has served more than 26,000 children in the Chicagoland area who would have otherwise gone without medical care. Two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles currently serve children in north and south Chicagoland. In partnership with Advocate Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program offers:
- Initial health screenings
- Immunizations
- Primary care treatment
- Referral/follow-up appointment for everyday and serious medical needs
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a mobile medical clinic designed with children in mind, incorporating patient exam rooms, a waiting area, and a medical records area.
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is staffed with medical professionals from our partner, Advocate Children’s Hospital. A nurse practitioner, medical assistant, and medical residents, all under the supervision of the program’s medical director, work to ensure the best care is provided to the children we serve.
To further support children in our community, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile also offers a backpack distribution program to provide school supplies, toiletries, and non-perishable food items for children facing food insecurity.
In 2023, our two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles distributed over 1,680 backpacks, including 741 backpacks that provided two days-worth of meals for food insecure children and a referral list to nearby local food pantries.
Healthcare for Children Who Need It Most
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program gives children and families access to a wide range of services and educational tools with the goal of connecting the child and family to a medical home.
While this program is not meant to replace regular visits to a doctor, it does provide an entry point into a regular pattern of health care for vulnerable children.
Services include:
- School and sports physicals
- Immunizations
- Oral hygiene education
- Asthma self-management education
- Vision and hearing screening
- Childhood health promotion and injury prevention education
- Nutrition counseling
- Mental health assessment and referral
- Social service resource referral
- Health education
