March Volunteer of the Month – Reva Hunigan
Meet our volunteers! Each month, we highlight stand-out volunteers and how they support families. For March, meet Reva Hunigan, who has been a fantastic volunteer at our Ronald McDonald House near Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital for over two years.
- How long have you volunteered with RMHC-CNI?
I have volunteered with the organization for a little more than two years now. I’ve been volunteering twice a month since I retired. - Where/how do you typically volunteer, and what do you usually do?
I participate as a Team Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House near Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital (in Winfield, IL). Each shift varies in terms of what exactly I do. You may find me cooking, baking, refreshing snacks, sorting donations, doing laundry, assisting families, orienting new volunteers, helping with holiday decorations, watering outside plants, and much more. I’m always there to do whatever it takes to make the House a “home-away-from-home” for families. - Why did you first start volunteering with RMHC-CNI, and what keeps you coming back?
My previous co-worker utilized the Ronald McDonald House many years ago when her baby was born and had serious medical issues. She often praised the organization and how it was so wonderful for her and her family during their critical time of need. Thinking of her and others that I meet makes me return, because I want to make their lives as stress-free as possible. - What is your favorite memory or experience from volunteering?
I don’t have one favorite memory or experience, because, overall, I enjoy the camaraderie and interacting with the wonderful staff, fellow volunteers, and family members. That’s what makes this experience so special! - What does it mean to you to donate your time to our organization?
I am honored to be part of the team for this organization that gives comfort to so many when they need it the most. - If someone was thinking about becoming a volunteer, what would you tell them about getting involved?
People ask me all the time about my involvement, and I proudly tell them the various ways to get involved and encourage them to sign up!
