Ryan Baker first became acquainted with RMHC-CNI in 2011 when he was a last minute fill in emcee for the McDonald’s All American Awards Banquet.  As a sports anchor, he was familiar with the McDonald’s All American Games and the McDonald’s brand, but was not fully aware of RMHC-CNI’s mission.  During the event, which was benefitting RMHC-CNI, Ryan became more familiar with the charity’s work and asked for ways to get involved.

“I was looking to become involved with a charity and RMHC-CNI has a great brand and reputation,” Ryan said.  “I have been extremely blessed in my life and I believe that to those who much is given much is expected,” Ryan said.

In 2012, Ryan became an RMHC-CNI board member and joined RMHC-CNI once again at the McDonald’s All American Awards Banquet as the evening’s emcee. When the McDonald’s All American Games returned to Chicago for its third consecutive year this past April, Ryan jumped right back in as the emcee not only bringing excitement, but also firsthand knowledge of the charity’s mission.

Ryan is also a member of RMHC-CNI’s Education Committee, the committee responsible for selecting scholarship winners each year.

“RMHC-CNI and the Ronald McDonald Houses truly improve the lives of countless individuals who otherwise wouldn’t have the means to stay close to their hospitalized child.”  “The Houses provide relief to make things better for families and children who are enduring unimaginable things,” said Ryan.

The 2013 McDonald’s All American Player Awards Banquet took place in Chicago for the third consecutive year on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.  Ryan Baker was our honorary emcee for the evening which recognized the country’s top 48 basketball players for their outstanding achievements both on and off the court.

The evening included a special ring ceremony, an award presentation, and a special keynote speech by ESPN Commentator, Stephen A. Smith.

On February 21, 2013, Cook County Farm Bureau celebrated its 13th Annual Food Checkout Day with two of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana’s “House of Representatives”, CBS 2 Chicago’s Ryan Baker and ABC 7 Chicago’s Mark Giangreco.  Ryan and Mark participated in a “scavenger hunt competition” at the Dominick’s located right next to our Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s

It was a close race with Ryan taking the victory with 101 items over Mark’s 95 items, but both celebrated together knowing that over 10,529 pounds of food would support the families staying together at our four Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Room in Edward Hospital. At the end of the race Ryan was presented with the official “Food Checkout Day” shopping cart trophy.  CLICK HERE to see more pictures from the event.
