September Volunteer of the Month – Madeleine Sletten
Meet our volunteers! Each month, we highlight stand-out volunteers and how they support families. For September, meet Madeleine Sletten who volunteers at our Ronald McDonald Family Room in Edward Hospital.
How long have you volunteered with Ronald McDonald House?
I started in February of 2024.
Where/how do you typically volunteer and what do you usually do?
I volunteer at the Family Room inside Edward Hospital. Morning shifts usually include greeting the families, restocking snacks and supplies, disinfecting toys in the playroom, and helping with lunch set up. I’ve also volunteered a couple of afternoons at the Loyola House, which I hope to do more frequently in the fall.
Why did you first start volunteering with Ronald McDonald House, and what keeps you coming back?
I started with Ronald McDonald House shortly after I retired. The scheduling options have worked out really well for me. It’s extremely easy to go online and sign up for additional shifts and events.
What is your favorite memory or experience from volunteering?
I’m so impressed by the poise and determination of the families that we serve. Tremendous grace under pressure.
What does it mean to you to donate your time to our organization?
Ronald McDonald House takes a really thoughtful approach to how the facilities operate, and I think the families realize and appreciate this. I’m glad to have signed up, I wish I had done it sooner.
If someone was thinking about becoming a volunteer with our organization, what would you tell them about getting involved?
Absolutely give it a try! There are a lot of different types of opportunities and events to choose from.
Thank you, Madeleine, for all that you do for children and families!
