November Volunteer of the Month – Covenant Living at Windsor Park
Meet our volunteers! Each month, we highlight stand-out volunteers and how they support families. For November, we spoke with Mickey, a resident at Covenant Living who organizes volunteer activites.
How long have you volunteered with us?
Covenant Living at Windsor Park has been volunteering for almost 10 years – Mickey moved in to Covenant Living in 2014 and started volunteering the first time they offered it and has been coming ever since! I make the menus, do all the conversions, go shopping with staff from Windsor Park, then we pick everyone up and head to the House!
Where/how do you typically volunteer (House, event, committee, other?) and what do you usually do?
We cook dinner at the House near CDH once a month.
Why did you first start volunteering with RMHC-CNI, and what keeps you coming back?
2015. The families and all the children I know we are helping keeps me coming back every month!
What is your favorite memory or experience from volunteering?
Each time we come is a valuable memory because I see all different people and the children. Each month is a special experience in my heart! Being able to be there and help these people.
What does it mean to you to donate your time to our organization?
It means many things to me – I am a retired Nurse so I have always been involved in anything that means taking care of people. I am a mother of 5 so taking care of children is something I have always done. RMHC is an extension of who I am!
If someone was thinking about becoming a volunteer with our organization, what would you tell them about getting involved?
I would encourage anyone to get involved. The list is always filled at Windsor Park because I talk about it so much and always encourage people to sign up. Everyone is always so anxious to help and I tell people to get down there and sign up right away! I make sure to orient new people to how it works so when I am no longer able to come – it ensures Windsor Park will be able to continue to support RMH. We come home tired but so happy!
Thank you, Windsor Park, for all that you do for children and families!
