How long have you volunteered with us?

I first began volunteering in the summer of 2017. Like many others, I had to pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, but I was so happy to return in August 2023.

Where/how do you typically volunteer (House, event, committee, other?), and what do you usually do?

When I first started, I spent time tidying up the Family Room—cleaning up after lunch and making sure everything was in place for the families. These days, I help by picking up and delivering meals to the Ronald McDonald Family Room® in Edward Hospital a few times a week. It’s a simple task, but one that ensures families are well-fed and cared for, which is what RMH is all about.

Why did you first start volunteering with RMHC-CNI, and what keeps you coming back?

I started volunteering when my twins were preparing to leave for college. I was looking for something meaningful to fill that transition, and I found it here. I knew a few people volunteering at Edward Hospital and decided to give it a try. I absolutely love it! Helping families, even in small ways, brings me so much joy. That’s what keeps me coming back.

What is your favorite memory or experience from volunteering?

One memory that really stands out is from when I had just started. I was setting up lunch in the Family Room and started chatting with a group of moms; turns out, some of them had twins too! We laughed, swapped stories, and shared that special connection only parents of multiples understand. It reminded me how powerful a small moment of connection can be.

What does it mean to you to donate your time to our organization?

I’m just happy I can help the families. It feels good to be useful and make someone’s day a little easier. If I can bring food to families and help take one worry off their plate, then I feel like I’ve done something meaningful.

If someone was thinking about becoming a volunteer with our organization, what would you tell them about getting involved?

I’d tell them: you’re going to love it. It’s a beautiful way to give back, and every little effort makes a difference. You’ll walk away feeling fulfilled, knowing that what you’re doing matters.
