January Volunteer of the Month – Bob Colvin
Meet our volunteers! Each month, we’ll be highlighting a stand-out volunteer (or two) and how they support families. For January, meet Bob Colvin, who has been volunteering at our Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s since 2017.
“I’ve volunteered at RMH near Lurie Children’s for about 18 months, and I handle all kinds of tasks – whatever is on the ‘To-Do’ list for the day.
I especially enjoy working the volunteer lunch groups as it gives me an opportunity to mix with our guests and see what I can do to be helpful. Sometimes, just listening for a few minutes works wonders. When I welcome the volunteer groups, I usually add that our job is to try to make lunch a safe time for families to enjoy a few minutes away from stress as their children are being treated for all kinds of medical issues. If I can do anything to help create a safe place, then my day is better for it.
I keep coming back because of the staff, the families, and the messages families share on the chalkboard at the back of the kitchen. They speak wonders to the miracle of RMH and remind me how much these families depend on RMH while their kids undergo all kinds of recuperative efforts.”
Thank you Bob for sharing your time and talents to support families!
