Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Family Activity Volunteers

Family Activity volunteers provide creative, one-of-a-kind daily diversions for families at the House such as arts and crafts, baking, story time, music during dinner, game or movie night and much more! You can turn just about anything into an activity with some creativity and resourceful thinking. The possibilities are endless for our Family Activity volunteers to share their time and talents.

If you have a talent you’d like to share with our families, let us know. Your help is critical in creating a warm, inviting, ‘home away from home’ for the families of children receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. We hope to bring the best that Chicago has to offer to families staying at the House!

Family Activities occur immediately following dinner, when our families are back at the House. Typically, activities begin around 7:00 p.m. You can bring up to eight volunteers to produce a Family Activity at the House.  Unfortunately, due to the unpredictability of a family’s stay, we are unable to give you an exact count of participants but know that whether you are working with two family members or 15 – everyone is grateful for your participation!

Step One: Choose an activity

CLICK HERE to access our Activities Guide that is filled with 30+ examples of activities that have either proven successful at one of our current Houses or new ideas that we feel have potential. Keep in mind that the Activity Guide is only a resource. We encourage you to use your own creativity and personal connections to craft an activity for families staying at the House – the sky is the limit!
