Poofy Socks, Benny the Bull and plenty of hoops in Hinsdale

Hoops for the House gave Hinsdale’s Grant Square a bevy of basketball for one day.

This massive 3-on-3 tournament had plenty of activities, celebrities and courts filled with basketball players of all ages battling each other on a hot June 28 morning and afternoon.

Money raised from the event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. The theme of this event was “Shooting to build the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House.”

The organization is building a Ronald McDonald House at 211 E. Grand Ave. in Chicago to provide what it is calling “a home away from home” for families of hospitalized children at select Chicago area hospitals. It is scheduled to open May, 2012.

Hundreds of athletes, many from the Hinsdale area, participated. Some of the more interesting team names included the Fighting Llamas, Project Poofy Socks, the Intergalactic Monkeys, the Cool Kumquats, Team Filth, AARP, the Penguins of Gibraltar and Barackin the Rim.

The next Ronald McDonald House charity event will be the 23rd Golf Classic July 30 at Cog Hill in Lemont. There will be several other events in the Chicago area throughout the year. For more information, visit www.rmhccni.org.
