Our Relationship With McDonald's
RMHC Mission Partner since 1974
McDonald’s played a vital role in the inception of the first Ronald McDonald House, which opened in Philadelphia in October, 1974. The world’s second Ronald McDonald House opened April 1977 here in Chicago and is largely seen as the catalyst that sparked the growth of the Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) system.
The McDonald’s Owner/Operators of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (MOCNI) co-op, along with McDonald’s corporate offices and their supplier network, are our most significant funders and supporters, contributing 20-25% toward our annual budget through local fundraising efforts.
- Nearly one million dollars is collected annually through donation boxes at nearly 500 area McDonald’s restaurants in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana to support our programs.
- Other restaurant initiatives include: One penny from every Happy Meal sold locally supports our programs and Give A Little Love.
Although the McDonald’s system is an important corporate partner, no one company funds our programs entirely. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, we rely on the support of the entire community and greatly value all donations, whether it’s through time, talent or treasure.
Thank you for donating to our mission through your local McDonald’s restaurants!
