Keeping Families Close When It Matters Most

Ronald McDonald House Charities (CNI) caring for families of hospitalized children

Helping a sick child fight their illness takes a big enough emotional toll on a family. Adding a financial strain can make it all almost too much to bear. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI) can help address those problems, whether they involve housing that’s near a hospitalized child, the expense of staying together in another city, or even getting basic medical care in a vulnerable community.

Our Vision

RMHC-CNI will be the respected leader in enhancing the health, well-being, and education of children in our area.

Our Mission

The mission of RMHC-CNI is to care for families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community.  RMHC-CNI keeps families of hospitalized children together in a ‘home away from home’.

Our Values

RMHC-CNI strives to reach out to all families and children in need in a caring, compassionate way, while holding itself strictly accountable for the investments it makes in its mission and programs.

Learn a Little More About Our Four RMHC Programs

Five Local Ronald McDonald Houses

Our five Ronald McDonald Houses provide a ‘home away from home’ to keep families together while their child is in the hospital. Every night, 153 families are able to find comfort, compassion and community of our Ronald McDonald Houses.  Located near Advocate Children’s Hospital, Central DuPage Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center, University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the Houses allow  families to eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need – just blocks from where their child is being treated. This year, we’ll provide over 43,000 nights to families during their greatest hours of  need. While we suggest a donation of $10 per night, no family is ever turned away if they are unable to pay. Three Local Ronald McDonald Family Rooms

Our three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located in Edward Hospital in Naperville, at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Medicine provide a haven of respite and hospitality for families whose children and newborns are receiving treatment. Located within the pediatric unit and featuring private sleep rooms with showers, a kitchenette, TV, and sitting areas, the space provides a home-like atmosphere, allowing families a moment to rest and rejuvenate. Scholarship Program

Now in its tenth year, the RMHC-CNI Scholarship Program provides $4,000/year, renewable scholarships to academically outstanding, community-minded and economically challenged young people. Winners are selected each Spring by RMHC-CNI’s Educational Committee.  Since 2006, we have awarded more than $1 million dollars to 123 students and have assisted 60 students in achieving their college degrees. The scholarships are renewable for four years contingent upon the student fulfilling G.P.A. and community service requirements. Learn more.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile

Our Care Mobile program, in partnership with Advocate Children’s Hospital, provides essential health services to children in under-served areas in a mobile environment. Children receive check-ups, immunizations, and referrals for specialty care, including asthma, cardiology, and allergies. Our goal is to find a “health care home” for all the children seen on the Care Mobile. Learn more.
