Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana provides a 'home away from home' to keep families of hospitalized children together during their greatest time of need.
Like many homes, the kitchen is the heart of our Houses. After a long day at the hospital, many families are in need of a home-cooked meal.
Meals from the Heart volunteers work as a small group to plan a menu, purchase the ingredients and prepare the meal in our full service kitchens, allowing families to find nourishment and comfort in a shared meal.

We have an online calendar for each of our ‘Meals from the Heart’ programs so your group can easily see what dates are open to cook:
**Since we are in a hospital setting, all meal donations need to be catered or store purchased/sealed. Possible ways for the community to help provide food for the families include:
- Restaurant donated meals
- Groups or individuals sponsoring a catered meal
- Donors can plan to provide for 25 people

If you see an “Open” date for the House where you’d like to cook, contact the appropriate House right away with your interest. Our staff will work with you to finalize the date and get you on the calendar!
Cooking a meal for our families is a truly rewarding experience and one you’ll never forget. Just ask our families: “I would have to say that we appreciate most, the meals… we love the sense of home and comfort when we are there.” “I enjoyed seeing the great joy on the faces of the volunteers who SO kindly donated their time to preparing meals for the families who were staying there. Those dinners were a blessing!”
