We’re Proud to Support the RMHC!

Recently I was lucky enough to receive a tour of the new Ronald McDonald House, now the world’s largest, which opens officially on June 26 in downtown Chicago. The 14-story, 86-room facility at 211 E Grand includes “nurturing communal areas to provide a home away from home” for families of the patients seeking vital care at The Ann & Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

In addition to the beautiful rooftop terrace-garden (pictured left) this state-of-the-art facility has a large community room for group planning and service projects, TV monitors at each elevator to communicate with the families, a closet already filled with toys, a game room for teens, a library with computer/internet access, a playroom for the younger kids, a kitchen the size of a modest cafeteria, luggage and waiting rooms throughout and after our trip there with members of the Motorola Solutions team this week, 6 brand-new SL7550 digital two way radios.

“These radios will be invaluable in enhancing our service to the families. When our team is able to communicate quicker and more effectively in real time to deal with the myriad of issues that our families face, it really helps make us more effective at dealing with the issues. These folks are probably in the worst times of their lives and you just helped us bring a little more ‘care and comfort’ to them during stressful times.” said Doug Porter, CEO of RMHC-Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.
Motorola Solutions kindly donated the 6 portable radios while
Jim & Ryan Lambrecht programmed them for the Ronald McDonald House. Jim said, “We greatly appreciate the opportunity to be associated with such a wonderful cause and we look forward to helping the Ronald McDonald House however we can in the future.” Chicago Communications LLC will also be donating the FCC licensing cost. Kari Bresemann, Channel Account Manager for Motorola Solutions, added, “What a remarkable place you have built for these families. We at Motorola Solutions and Chicago Communications are happy to help with the Ronald McDonald home.”

The staff already seems to be thrilled with these new devices. “The quality of the reception is incredible and the units are so small, lightweight & cool,” said Jamie Haberkorn, Senior Director of the RMHC facility. This new digital radio system is going to be the key communication tool at the facility. The Motorola Digital SL7550 portable two-way radios will not only assist the RMHC team but will also assist the hospital to communicate back and forth in times of need when family members aren’t able to be reached on their cell phones.
