Camden Murphy first began volunteering at Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s back in December of 2012.  His very first day volunteering at the House  was actually on Christmas morning thanks to a close friend and McDonald’s franchise owner, John Dakajos, who introduced Camden to the charity.  Since then, Camden has been a longtime volunteer and close friend of RMH near Lurie Children’s.

“I was working in the storage rooms, helping to refresh the House and putting new toys backs on the shelves in the toy closet. Then I came back a few weeks later and helped to take down all of the holiday decorations.”

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana is what motivated Camden to volunteer in the first place.  “Togetherness is what Ronald McDonald House is all about and that is EXACTLY what it does for the families.  The House brings families together in such a unique way that it fascinates me and makes me want to help out in absolutely any way possible.”

Camden loves volunteering at Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s because of the wonderful families he gets to meet on a regular basis.  Something that really astounded Camden was witnessing the ‘Meals from the Heart’ program where groups volunteer on a daily basis providing home-cooked lunches and dinners.  “It makes me want to keep volunteering and be a contributing member of the RMHC-CNI Family.”

Over the past eight years Camden has had a lot of success both in legend cars and in truck races, culminating with a big win at the Milwaukee Mile in 2014.

“That win opened more doors to me, and made it possible to move up into the full NASCAR Truck Series.” To compete in the NASCAR race, Camden needed to raise a lot of money or find a big marketing partner.

“I had a lot of friends, family, and marketing partners step forward to help me. Together we had enough money for the race, but I didn’t have a key marketing partner to advertise on my hood, and so I decided to donate the space to Ronald McDonald House.”
